Böbrekte üretilen idrar üreterler vasıtasıyla mesaneye gelir. İdrar torbası idrarı depolamaya ve gerektiğinde vücuttan dışarı atmaya yarar.
Oluşan idrar böbreklerden mesaneye üreter denilen iki dar tüp ile taşınırlar. Mesane doldukça gerilir ve normalde yaklaşık 400cc idrar depolar. Bu hacmin yarısına yaklaşılınca idrar yaparak mesaneyi boşaltma isteği duyulmaya başlanır.
